The Trauma and Burns Centers, and their dedicated Intensive Care Units, form a Satellite Academic Center for the University of the Witwatersrand Faculty of Health Sciences and all the Medical Staff on the Unit hold joint appointments with the Department of Surgery at the University.

The Unit works closely with all pre-hospital Emergency Services, and in particular with Netcare 911 Road EMS and Netcare Airborne HEMS.
